My name is Stephen Gray, and I’m running for Elkhart County Council District 2.
Not because it’s the next step in a political career—but because I believe our county deserves consistent, present, and accountable leadership.
This Seat Matters More Than People Think
County Council isn’t about headlines.
It’s about:
- How your tax dollars are spent
- Whether priorities reflect real families
- And whether the people elected to serve are truly engaged in the community
This role requires more than experience on paper.
It requires showing up, listening, and staying connected—year after year.
Why I Stepped Up
Over time, I’ve seen a growing disconnect between local government and everyday residents.
Not always intentional—but real.
When leadership becomes something you step in and out of…
or something that exists more in meetings than in the community…
people feel it.
In places like Baugo, Cleveland, and Concord Townships, people expect their leaders to be present—not just during elections, but year-round.
That’s what pushed me to run.
What Makes This Campaign Different
I’m not running on a résumé.
I’m running on:
- Being present in the community
- Being accessible to the people I represent
- And understanding what families here are actually going through
As a father of a child with special needs, I’ve experienced firsthand how gaps in services—especially in mental health and support systems—impact real families.
These aren’t abstract policy issues to me.
They’re personal.
The Kind of Leadership We Need
Elkhart County doesn’t need part-time attention.
It needs leadership that is:
- Consistent — not just during election season
- Engaged — not just in meetings, but in the community
- Accountable — not just when it’s easy, but especially when it’s not
This isn’t about politics.
It’s about presence.
Moving Forward
This race comes down to a simple question:
Do we want to continue with the same patterns—
or do we want leadership that is fully invested in this community right now?
I’m running because I believe we can raise the standard.
And I’m ready to do the work.
