Elkhart County is growing — and with that growth comes opportunity.

But it also comes with important decisions.

Across District 2, I’ve heard from residents who aren’t necessarily against development — they just want to make sure it’s done thoughtfully, with input from the people it affects most.

That’s a fair expectation.

Respect for Property Owners

I believe strongly in property rights.

If you own land, you should have the freedom to use it — within reason — without unnecessary government interference.

At the same time, major projects can have real impacts on surrounding properties and communities.

That’s why these decisions should never be rushed.

They should involve:

  • Open communication
  • Input from neighbors
  • A clear understanding of long-term impact

Not One-Size-Fits-All

Every project is different.

Whether it’s:

  • Solar developments
  • Data centers
  • New housing or commercial expansion

These aren’t decisions that should be treated the same across the board.

They deserve careful consideration — not blanket approval or automatic rejection.

Listening Before Deciding

The role of County Council isn’t to dictate — it’s to represent.

That means listening to:

  • Property owners
  • Neighbors
  • The broader community

Before making decisions that can affect an area for years to come.

A Balanced Approach

Growth can be a good thing.

But only when it’s done in a way that respects the people who already live here.

My approach is simple:

  • Protect property rights
  • Listen to residents
  • Make thoughtful, informed decisions

Because the goal isn’t just growth — it’s getting it right.
