Public safety isn’t just about policies or budgets — it’s about people.
For my family, it’s personal.
As a father of a child with special needs, I see firsthand how important it is to have systems in place that support and protect vulnerable individuals. For many families, peace of mind comes from knowing that if something goes wrong, there are resources available that understand their situation.
Programs like Project Lifesaver are a great example of how public safety and compassion can work together — helping first responders quickly locate individuals who may be at risk.
But it goes beyond any single program.
Mental Health Is Public Safety
Mental health services play a critical role in keeping our communities safe and strong.
When individuals and families have access to the support they need, it reduces strain on law enforcement, strengthens families, and improves outcomes across the board.
This isn’t just a budget issue — it’s a priority that affects real lives every day.
Supporting Those on the Front Lines
We also need to make sure our first responders have the tools and support they need to do their jobs effectively.
That includes:
- Proper training
- Access to resources
- Strong coordination with mental health services
Public safety works best when all parts of the system are working together.
A Thoughtful Approach
These are areas where decisions shouldn’t be rushed or overlooked.
They require thoughtful planning, responsible funding, and a willingness to listen to both professionals and families who are directly impacted.
Moving Forward
If elected, I will prioritize:
- Supporting public safety programs that make a real difference
- Strengthening access to mental health resources
- Making sure decisions are made with both safety and compassion in mind
Because at the end of the day, this isn’t about politics.
It’s about people — and making sure every family in Elkhart County feels safe and supported.
